Join fellow OAMS members for an exciting weekend adventure at Red Top Mountain, a renowned spot for agates, geodes, and quartz specimens:
Explore the prime agate beds, known for chalcedony and geode-bearing pockets.
Learn field techniques for identifying, digging, and safely extracting geodes, with emphasis on proper tool use and safety.
Hike short, scenic trails—including the access route to the lookout and collecting areas—with views of the surrounding Cascades.
What to Bring:
Sturdy footwear and gloves
Rock hammer, chisels, safety glasses
Water, snacks, sun/rain protection
Optional: high-clearance or 4WD vehicle for rough forest roads
Notes:
Terrain includes rocky roads and short hikes (approximately 0.5 to 1 mile).
Outhouse available at trailhead; pack out all trash.
