Event Title: OAMS Field Trip – Yachats Beach Agates & Chalcedonies

Description:

Join OAMS members for a beautiful coastal outing to Yachats Beach, known for its rich gravel beds full of sagenitic agates, chalcedonies, and jasper. This trip offers a great mix of beachcombing, geology, and community fun.

• Hunt for sagenitic agates with unique needle-like inclusions, as well as colorful chalcedony and jasper

• Learn tips for spotting agates by their translucence, shape, and texture—especially at low tide

• Share collecting techniques and enjoy time with fellow rockhounds in a stunning coastal setting

What to Bring:

• Sturdy, waterproof footwear and gloves

• Mesh or cloth collecting bag

• Water, snacks, and layered clothing for changing coastal weather

• Optional: walking stick, scoop, or small shovel for gravel beds

Notes:

• Best collecting is during low tide—please check tide charts ahead of time

• This trip is open to OAMS members only
