OAMS members are invited to a fall excursion to Zinc Creek, a well-regarded locale for finding deep red carnelian, muted-toned jasper, and glimmering pyrite near Boulder Creek. This trip combines specimen-hunting with scenic creekside exploration.
Collect red carnelian nodules and colorful jasper from creek gravels
Search for pyrite crystals associated with Boulder Creek outcrops
Share geology insights and collecting strategies with fellow members in a beautiful woodland setting
What to Bring:
Rock hammer, chisels, digging tools, gloves, and safety glasses
Collecting buckets or bags, gloves, and sturdy footwear
Water, food, and layers suitable for early fall weather
Notes:
Terrain includes creek beds and uneven ground—some hiking and rock handling required
No facilities—pack in/out all trash and bring necessary personal supplies
Cell service may be limited in the area
