OAMS Field Trip – Little Naches Blue Agate Thundereggs

Description:
OAMS members are invited to a weekend dig at Little Naches, a well-known site for collecting blue agate-filled thundereggs. These distinctive nodules often contain chalcedony, banded agate, and crystal-lined cavities, making them a favorite among rockhounds.
Collect from known beds along Quartz Creek and nearby hillsides
Dig for thundereggs using hammers, chisels, and digging tools
Share techniques and geological insights with fellow members in a scenic forest environment
What to Bring:
Rock hammer, chisels, digging tools, gloves, and safety glasses
Water, food, and clothing for variable mountain weather
Collecting buckets or backpacks
Optional: tarp, stool, or kneepads for comfort while digging
GPS or maps for navigating forest roads
Notes:
Terrain includes dirt roads and a moderate hike of about ½ mile
No restrooms or water on-site—come prepared and pack out all trash
Cell service may be limited in the area
