Little Naches area, Wenatchee National Forest, Washington

Description:

OAMS members are invited to a weekend dig at Little Naches, a well-known site for collecting blue agate-filled thundereggs. These distinctive nodules often contain chalcedony, banded agate, and crystal-lined cavities, making them a favorite among rockhounds.

  • Collect from known beds along Quartz Creek and nearby hillsides

  • Dig for thundereggs using hammers, chisels, and digging tools

  • Share techniques and geological insights with fellow members in a scenic forest environment

What to Bring:

  • Rock hammer, chisels, digging tools, gloves, and safety glasses

  • Water, food, and clothing for variable mountain weather

  • Collecting buckets or backpacks

  • Optional: tarp, stool, or kneepads for comfort while digging

  • GPS or maps for navigating forest roads

Notes:

  • Terrain includes dirt roads and a moderate hike of about ½ mile

  • No restrooms or water on-site—come prepared and pack out all trash

  • Cell service may be limited in the area

  • This trip is open to OAMS members only
